It is with a sad heart that I announce the passing of Dr. Vedran Deletis, a leader, colleague, mentor and friend.
About the Author.
Dr. Deletis was suddenly taken from us just days ago on September 12th. Our community has not only lost a prominent figure in our field but also someone who loved his work as well as life itself.
Vedran originally trained as a neurologist and practiced in Europe.
After coming to the US, he obtained his PhD in Clinical Neurophysiology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX. Eventually he took a position in New York city and became the long-time collaborator there with the neurosurgeon Dr.
Fred Epstein at Beth Israel Medical Center. This notable partnership would develop the intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring that eventually lead to the historical publications of work in pediatric spinal cord tumor surgery and the characterization of the so-called ‘D-Wave’, or direct wave, that predicted motor recovery after surgery better t
