This is not the first time that I've read Daisy Hay, nor is it the first time I've read about Disraeli.
Both of those experiences made me want to read more, so this was a pretty fortunate confluence of book events for me- very grateful that Hay's research lead her to this topic. This book is a natural outgrowth of her previous work in Young Romantics.
In that book, Hay looked at the Byron-Shelley generation and attempted to break down the stereotype of the loner, the misunderstood Romantic genius flourishing in isolation in favor of emphasizing how none of these people would ever have become who they were without their repeated encounters with each other.
So it is fitting that her next book continues to insist upon the importance of relationships and connections in the lives of Great Men.
